Joan Bundy, principal of Joan Bundy Law, became passionate about divorce and family law while serving as a prosecutor, helping bring justice to victims of domestic violence. She saw firsthand how the legal system can serve as a positive force to help families escape abusive and sometimes life-threatening situations, and move forward with their lives.

Joan also learned that the adversarial nature of the justice system can sometimes stand in the way of a positive outcome in family law cases. Many attorneys believe, or want you to believe, that the aggressive, pit-bull approach, where the goal is to intimidate the other party and rip the other side’s case to shreds, always brings the best results for their clients. This may be true on television, but real life is more complex.

Joan does not hesitate to assertively advocate for her clients where the situation demands it.  But she also believes that cooperation often brings a faster, more efficient, happier, and longer-lasting outcome that benefits the entire family. If the parties are willing to work together to resolve their issues, she may recommend mediation instead of going to court, which can turn into a costly, drawn-out, and emotionally wrenching battle. She reviews each client’s legal matter individually and recommends the approach that she believes, through years of experience in family law, will work best.

Joan grew up in a small Iowa town and has lived in Arizona since 2000. Before entering the legal field, she sharpened her communication skills as a journalist and public relations professional.

The proud parent of one dog and two cats, Joan considers companion animals to be part of the family. She is well recognized by her colleagues for her knowledge of animal law issues. Currently, Joan is chairperson of the State Bar of Arizona’s Animal Law Section. For many years, has been a board member of, volunteer for, or financial contributor to many animal welfare organizations.

In her free time, she enjoys singing, giving piano lessons, conducting her church’s bell choir, quilting, and spending quality time with her husband of over 20 years.
